Happy Monday! It’s been an eventful few months up in the bold north of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, and even though it’s our “offseason,” the TWP team has been preparing for what’s sure to be a very busy spring.
Later this week, TWP will be attending the Pollinator Best Practices Summit 2018, hosted by our friends at the Pollinator Friendly Alliance. One year ago, we attended this event simply to listen and absorb as much as we could. This year, we are excited to continue to learn about all the different pollinator conservation practices happening around us, and are eager to share some of our success stories as part of a round-table discussion focusing on urban habitat. We can’t wait to share with you what we learn!
TWP has continued to work with our partners at Urban Growler Brewing Co. and have agreed to host a fundraising event later this spring. All are welcome to join us on Saturday, May 5 (Cinco de Mayo) at Urban Growler as we raise a glass to pollinators at our Flores de Mayo event! We will share more details in the coming weeks, but it’s sure to be a good time! Live music, delicious food and tasty brews, all in support of our mission. We can’t wait! We are so grateful to the good folks at Urban Growler!
TWP has also engaged in talks with Saint Paul Public Schools and is exploring an opportunity to host a community education class at our community gardens (Dunning and Merriam Station) next June. Dates and times are still TBD, but this class, Planting with a Purpose, will focus on healthy gardening practices, plant identification, hands-on gardening activities and tips from experts. Registration information will be out next month so check back soon as space will be limited.
As some of you know, TWP has been pursuing it’s 501(c)(3) status for some time – it’s a very tedious process, but we’re still hoping to get our status by the end of 2018. In the mean-time, TWP has enlisted the help of an organization called Propel Nonprofits. They have agreed to serve as TWP’s fiscal sponsor for the foreseeable future, allowing TWP to function as a 501(c)(3) organization….meaning all your donations are now tax-deductible (accept for those made via PayPal, we’re still working on that)!
More exciting news, TWP will be working with Sunrise Banks again this spring as we move on to another branch in Saint Paul. The University and Vandalia install was one of our most successful gardens in 2017, and Sunrise agreed! Who knows, by the end of this year, we may have gardens at all 8 Sunrise branches!
Additionally, TWP is still in discussions with Merriam Park, Oak Glen Golf Course, the City of Saint Paul and a whole host of other potential partners. We can’t wait to see what 2018 brings! There’s lots more to share, but a few things need a little more time to grow, so we will be doing our best to update you at the beginning of each month with our progress.
